Belle and Bella This story began about 6 months ago….

My name is Jennifer Grieve I work in the desert in the town of Littlerock, Ca.

On my way to work one day I saw that 2 dogs a white Shepherd Mix and a Rotweiler were out in  the middle of the desert  they had no food ,water , or shelter It broke my heart to see that there are so many animals abandoned out in the desert of the antelope valley… Who does this? To leave an animal to starve to death dehydrate to be killed by a

Car or by a pack of coyotes. I can’t help but wonder would they do that to their own

Children.  I started out throwing dog biscuits to them not knowing if they were

Staying or would somehow find their way home. When it became clear to me that there

Was no home to go to the streets had become their home. And they were pretty well starving I got gallon bottles and cut the tops off to fill them as water buckets with a rock to weight them down so they would not tip over or blow away. I filled them up every morning on my way to work and every evening on my way home. I bought a 40 lb bag of dog food to keep in my car and I began feeding them morning, evening and even the weekends. Sometimes I would see more than these 2 dogs looking for food and they would be fed too. After a while these dogs would hear my car coming and they would come out from where ever they were sleeping they would wait for me to fill the dishes with food and wait for me to leave as I drove away I could see them in my mirror eating like it was their last meal

When I started my vacation in June I still came every day to feed these animals

Who I now have come to love so dearly and never dreaming they would ever trust another human again after what they had been through. The Rotweiler began wagging her tail at me when I would call out to her I didn’t expect that to happen then one day on my vacation a miracle happened both dogs came running to me one morning and started letting me pet them and started kissing me I was shocked and overwhelmed with Joy

Now I was thinking I had to get them off the streets the Shepherd was clearly pregnant

I could not bare to leave her there to have babies and try to protect them form other prey.

I called the antelope valley dog and cat rescue and Vilma the founder called me back right away. She asked that I come to the sanctuary to see it. When I arrived Vilma showed me around I liked what I saw Volunteers all working very hard cleaning feeding and walking all the animals. They are all very loving and very happy, However there was no room at the sanctuary there were no other kennels available I spoke with Vilma about the cost of adding another kennel Vilma immediately called her board then called to find the cost of a new kennel she decided somehow we could do it all I could do is cry.

Vilma said lets go save them dogs. I had no idea how we were going to do it but Vilma had a plan. The Shepherd was easy we just loaded her into the car the Rrotweiler was the tough one as soon as I put the collar on her she became a bucking bronco Vilma was prepared though she pulled a huge dog crate out of her car and we started reeling the dog into it. we got the 2 dogs to the sanctuary and put them into a fenced yard until their permanent site could be put together .when I arrived at the sanctuary the next day John and Dennis were working on the kennel and it was almost done I could not believe it all I knew is that this woman could work miracles she knew these dogs had to be saved that they had been through some tough times together scrounging for food water and shelter from the rain snow and now incredible heat. Eileen and Becca started putting up blankets to create a shade for the dogs. I had never met any of these people but they all jumped in to save the lives of these dogs. Everyday I go to the sanctuary to visit Bell and Bella and they still get excited when thy hear my car coming. I have named the Rotweiler Bella and the Shepherd Belle what more could an animal want than what this wonderful woman Vilma has provided them with they have found endless love and trust they would never have had it not been for the generous work of Vilma Drever of the Antelope Valley dog and cat rescue. I will be forever in debt to all these wonderful people who helped save Belle and Bella now Belle can have her puppies in a safe clean loving environment and when the time is right they can go to loving homes. This is the story I could only dream about, but Vilma made it happen. I have now been on vacation for three weeks and come to the sanctuary every day I am amazed at the never ending love and strength of this woman. Vilma is my hero and Angel on earth.

This is only one of the amazing stories connected with the Antelope Valley Dog and Cat Rescue. ....and Ms. Jennifer Grieve. Having known Jennifer as an animal lover through our association at work, this account of Belle and Bella is not surprising. She and a fellow coworker are quite well known for their compassionate nature where animals are concerned. They often adopt pets on their own and now with the help of the Rescue, Jennifer has been able to save not only a mom and companion, but a litter of puppies as well! Jennifer's continued dedication to these animals is unsurpassed, as is her dedication to the Rescue as a whole. I have visited the Rescue over the past few weekends and am truly amazed at the fabulous conditions of the facility. It is not only clean and spacious, but the loving care from all of the volunteers and Vilma is abundant. If "All Dogs go to Heaven"....I am quite certain that all these dog lovers will too....they are truly outstanding people....as Jennifer said....Angels here on Earth!
